In this month’s user spotlight blog, we’re talking to Mark du Toit, a Solutions Engineer here at Nintex. What is your current role and some career background?Solution Engineer, 3yrs, and I have played various roles within the Enterprise Content Management and Business Process Management fields, including (but not limited to), Principal Consultant, Solution Designer, Solution Engineer, Domain Architect, etc.Which Nintex Product are you most passionate about and why?Process Manager and Nintex Workflow, because I get to define processes and get customer buy-in using Process Manager, and then automate those workflows using Nintex Workflow… to see them come to life!What do you enjoy most about answering Community questions? I like the sense of community and supporting fellow process aficionados, it’s never great struggling on your own, and knowing that you have a community you can lean on for advice is awesome.Is there any advice you would give to users learning Nintex?Just keep trying… bum

The Nintex Workflow workflow designer makes it easy to create workflows. Actions can be dragged and dropped from the toolbox, which also has a search bar for finding the action you need.Commonly used actions have been put at our fingertips to make things easier.Click the plus icon in the designer, and a context menu appears with five frequently used actions, such as Send an email and Set a variable value.If our favorite action does not appear, there is also a search bar to help find it.Click the action to add it to the workflow. 

Use caseNintex Workflow has SharePoint start events for new and updated items, but workflows must be manually triggered in some scenarios. A Nintex Workflow can be created that accepts an item ID so it knows which item to operate on, but wouldn’t it be much easier to pass data and start a workflow on an item with just one click? SolutionWe begin by creating a new workflow with a form start event in Nintex Workflow.To pass the ID of the SharePoint item to the start form, we take advantage of the getQueryStringParameter function.We create a form variable and add a getQueryStringParameter function with a text parameter of “ID”getQueryStringParameter("ID") Alternatively, we can display the item ID on the form by setting the function as a default parameter for a form control. SharePointTo add the link to SharePoint, the modern view must be used.We add a single line of text column to the list. Have you ever wanted to make the options displayed in a radio button control (single choice control) dynamic?  For example, we have a menu that changes daily across all three meal types (breakfast, lunch and dinner).  Here’s an example shown in a SharePoint list for today’s menu: In the past, if you wanted to present these dynamically, you’d have to create 3 choice controls (one each for breakfast, lunch and dinner) and hide the ones that weren’t needed via a rule.  Then when the user has made their selection, you also have to know to retrieve the value from the meal type that was selected.  All off this is pretty straightforward but at Nintex, we’re not satisfied with straightfoward - we want it to be fast and easy. So you might have seen @SimonMuntz’s recent post on using data source variables with the single choice control.  That’ s exactly what you’d use for this scenario. First, you have to set up your data source variable.  Here’s the help topic on doing this if you need some ass

I was recently approached by a customer asking if there was a way to add an image into the email body of an NWC email. While the rich text controls let you do a certain amount of formatting (like lists and bullet points, or heading fonts), sometimes you just want to have more control over what goes into the email body. The solution here does require a little bit of light HTML, but it's honestly so simple, you can definitely get it set up even without any HTML or programming experience. The trick is, to set a text variable with the HTML tag for an image. Here's the code I used in my sample: <img src="https://gallery.nintex.com/assets/images/Community_Logo.png"/> You are going to need to find a place to host the image. If it's a company logo, you might not have to look any further than your own company's website. Just be sure to copy the image URL. The action you're going to need to use is "Set a Variable Value". I started here as a support Engineer and held several titles between then and now. Before that I was an Infantryman in the US Army for 8 years. While I was in College, I worked in a heart disease research lab.Which Nintex Product are you most passionate about and why?Right now, Nintex Automation Cloud since it’s the biggest part of what I do, but I’m leaning heavily into Nintex Apps to be able to work with both together since I think it provides a ton of capability that Automation Cloud needed.
