Best Practices and why they matter the most!

During the past two weeks, I have been updating our training materials for the course "Best Practices for Automation" on Kryon Academy. We also took this opportunity to add a new module that lays out specific Attended Automation best practices. This course is one of the fundamental courses to watch before and during an RPA development process. I think that sometimes we rush into the project missing the part of the planning, and then it takes us longer to overcome the gaps we have created for ourselves. But best practices guidelines help you put more structure into the project as a whole and the development process; then, you can plan accordingly.  I collected these best practices from our support team. They reflect some conclusions from use cases and development guidelines that business users like me are not always familiar with. how to verify if advance commands have been added/removed to a wizard from version 20.3

This is an explanation on how to understand which and how much advanced commands have been added/removed to the wizards:1.      From the main studio window open the wizard and look for its ID on the General tab: in this case '11' This ID will be changed between systems so if this wizard was migrated you need to verify in the new system what is the ID now according to the wizard name.  2.      From the Advanced Commands Count Tab you will be able also to see the Advance commands contained in the wizard:   3.      In order to get this data from the Database this is the query you will run (again we will use the ID script we verified before):SELECT TOP (1000) [ScriptID]     ,[AdvancedCommandName]     ,[AdvancedCommandCategory]     ,[AdvancedCommandCount]     ,[ID] FROM [Kryon].[dbo].[LeoScriptsAdvancedCommands] where scriptid='11'  This data must be saved in an external place ( the output of this query) as once we update the wizard again this will be overwritten on our DB: so it is importa

Automation Sample: Select a date from a datepicker (Visual Automation)

Easy way to capture text (sub-string) between two surrounding words/phrases (without using "splits")

Let's say you have the following text/string (or something similar):  ... abcde 12345 fghij ... If you need/want only to capture the value 12345 (without the surrounding spaces), one option is to use the "split" command. Doing so is totally viable, but not the most straight forward way (as it requires multiple steps). The most straightforward way would be to use the "find" (Advanced) Command and use a regular expression as follows:  (?<=abcdes)(.*)(?=sfghij) This will yield the desired result and capture only the enclosed value between the surrounding phrases/words/terms. Modify the expression to suit your data.

Recording Keyboard Strokes

Did you know that some keyboard strokes are recorded as one core action, and some are recorded as a sequence of keyboard strokes under the same core action? Here are the keys that are recorded individually: ESC, all F keys, Enter, TabOther keys are recorded as a sequence- let's say that you record your first and last name, and press the space bar to separate them, Kryon Studio will capture this text as one core action. If you think about it, it makes a lot of sense, because all these keys usually use us for a sequence when we use the keyboard, and other keys use us for significant actions. Note that the thing that will "break" the chain is one of the individually recorded keys (ESC, Enter, Tab, and F keys), or a mouse click. Buy the way; it means that you can record a few keys and an Enter as one core action, as long as the Enter is the last key you press. Think about it ?

Time Triggers and Daylight Savings Time

Dear customers and partners,  Some of us are getting closer to the Day Light Saving Time (DST) switchover.  If you are about to switch to DST soon, we recommend performing four simple actions, to make sure that Kryon Console initiates time-based triggers properly. If you have time-based triggers, follow these steps:Disable time-based triggers before the switchovers After the move to DST, restart the environment on which the robot is set to run After the environment is up again, make sure the time is set right Enable the task

Performance Issue and a Fix for LogonExpert

Dear customers and partners, The following performance issue was found in v19.5.x and might be relevant for earlier versions (This is not yet verified, and we will provide any new updates once we have them): If an Unattended Robot is defined in Kryon Console without credentials, the robot will “pause” for full two minutes before every task run. This happens due to a LogonExpert issue that creates a timeout of two minutes when it tries to “unlock” the session when no credentials are set on the machine. The issue was resolved as part of the LogonExpert v7.9 release two weeks ago. We recommend upgrading your LogonExpert version if your organization is using Unattended Robots running on v19.5.x. An installation file is attached to this post. Note: LogonExpert can be upgraded separately from the Kryon solution. **If you have decided to apply this fix - upgrade should be done on ALL Unattended Robot machines.(no need to install it on the RPA server or Kryon Studio-only machines that run Kryo

HTML advanced commands and Internet Explorer (IE)

When you want to use HTML advanced commands on IE, you should verify ActiveX control is enabled.In case it is not, a popup message will probably ask you to enable it. I will add later the screenshot of this popup message.

Uninstall of RPA Server

 Knowledge shared by Oren Uninstalling of SEQ does not remove the SEQ service, it only removes the files. This is how SEQ installation and uninstallation works.To remove the SEQ service you need to either run the SEQ admin tool before the SEQ uninstall, or run the windows "sc delete" command after the uninstall. To remove all components that were installed using RPA Server, add the following parameter to the CLI of the RPA Server setup EXE:"REMOVE_ALL=TRUE"(I admit I am not sure this parameter was tested enough yet)

Hi I have a wizard with "get email messages" command in it and its in a embedded wizard. When we run this trigger on Console, i t somehow doesn't detect the "get email messages" command.

to explain in more detail, i had the show messages on to see whats going on and it said as "GENERAL ERROR" and i did check all the credentials vault and also subject line which is all right.The weird part is it fails when we initially trigger it but works fine when we re run the Trigger.Any Suggestions/thoughts?

How to read and extract contents from digital PDF documents?

1. Use the Analyze digital PDF file advanced command. This command can only be used on a digital PDF document (document that’s converted from a soft copy document (e.g. Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc) and not applicable to scanned document2. An Error variable can be defined to identify the specific error if an issue occurs during the execution3. Use the Page: Get Text advanced command within the Analyze digital PDF file advanced command to extract the contents by page4. As the Analyze digital PDF file advanced command is a loop command which gets the contents by page, there is a need to append all the contents obtained into a variable which provides you with the full contents of the extraction in 1 variable. This can be achieved through the use of concatenation of values into a single variable after each page extraction5. At the end of the execution, you should have a variable (e.g. $pdfContent$) that contains the entire extracted content (excluding images) from the PDF document. You wil
