Supported File Types for Data Import

Question

What are the supported file types for data import?

Answer

The following is a list of supported file types that are compatible with Foxtrot's data import. A description of how Foxtrot will access these files is as follows:

File that Foxtrot RPA will convert to an accdb, and that all others will convert to a dbf:

For the following files, Foxtrot will not alter your original dataset. Instead, the file will be copied as an Access database (accdb) or database files (dbf), in which Foxtrot will use as the direct data source:
  • Comma-Delimited Text (.csv)
  • Excel Spreadsheets (.xls, .xlsx, .xlsm)
  • Fixed-Width Text (.txt, .sdf, .prn)
  • Lotus WK1, WK3, WK4 Sheets (.wk1, .wk2, .wk4) - Foxtrot Legacy only
  • paradox 3.x, 4.x, 5.x Tables (.db) - Foxtrot Legacy only

Files that Foxtrot will directly interact with

Foxtrot will directly interact with the following files. Any changes Foxtrot will make to any fields will be reflected within the database:
  • Access Tables (.mdb, .accdb)
  • dBase III, IV, V Tables (.dbf)
In addition, Foxtrot will add three fields to the respective .dbf or Access database files. These fields are:
  • LOGTEXT: A free field that can be used to store any information (up to 30 characters).
  • ADDED: Tracks which records have been processed, and which ones are still pending.
  • RECORDNMBR: Tracks the current record within the database.
