Validation rule not firing on detail override page

I ran into an instance where I was successfully getting a Validation rule to fire when on the standard SFDC page layout but unable to trigger it in a Skuid page.  This is on a Contact Detail page. 

I have a few validations that always fire on a Table and other Detail pages, but this seems abnormal.
