Recurring Task Replication

Has anyone replicated SF’s recurring task options with any success?  If so, would you be willing to share how you did it?

I have a popup for creating a new task and would like to give people the ability to create a recurring task from this popup but SF looks to reuse some of the recurring fields depending on what frequency or recurrence you would like.
