Right now, the automatic assignment functionality is great if you create the user in a specific role. What if you could move someone into a profile and that triggered the permission set and license assignment?
Example:
IT creates all users and dumps them into a default user Profile.
Ops moves the user into the appropriate Profile which triggers the license and permission sets to be assigned.

+2I’m in agreement. Users (especially those being created by some sort of Identity Management system) are often not put into the correct Profile upon creation.
I would go further with this and request that you could assign based on a combo of Profile/Role. It would be REALLY phenomenal if you could use ANY criteria (including custom fields) on the user record to do the assignments… Just sayin’ if you’re gonna ask… go for the gold!
