Promapp - Reusing reference numbers once a process is archived

Is the only way to reuse a reference number once a process has been archived, is to restore the process then remove the number then archive again?

Or can we just delete and then the number becomes usable ?

Once an archived process with a reference number has been deleted, that reference number becomes available to use again.
