it seem to be using the user that create the sharepoint online connection. is there a way to change it to a “service account”

If you use the service account to login when creating the connection then it should use the service account for the actions. You can update the currently created connection by going to the connections page and selecting edit on the connection. Then click connect and login with the service account to update it.
