When a workflow errors a notification can be sent to the workflow initiator and any other additional people as required.

Navigate to Central Administration > Nintex Workflow Management > Workflow Error Notifications.
From this page there is an option which allows you to send a notification to the workflow initiator or not and a box where any other email addresses can be added for system administrators etc.
