Hi Community Team,

Our team is currently working on a Proof of Concept (POC) using Nintex Automation K2 5.9 (On-Premises), Build 5.0010.1000.0.

As part of this POC, we are attempting to retrieve multiple records from Google Sheets through a SmartObject and process each row individually using a K2 Workflow Loop.

1. Current Scenario

We have successfully established a connection to Google Sheets and retrieved the spreadsheet data using a SmartObject.

The Google Sheets response contains multiple rows in the following JSON structure:

{

  "range": "Pricing!A2:B4",

  "values": [

    ["DocGen", "RM20,000"],

    ["Nintex Workflows", "RM15,000"],

    ["Process Manager", "RM25,000"]

  ]

}

Each nested array represents one record consisting of two columns:

  • Column A: Product
  • Column B: Price

2. Expected Result

We would like the K2 workflow to iterate through each Google Sheets row and process the Product and Price values separately.

For testing purposes, we have configured a Send Email step within the Workflow Loop to verify the values retrieved during each iteration.

The expected output is:

Iteration

Product

Price

1

DocGen

RM20,000

2

Nintex Workflows

RM15,000

3

Process Manager

RM25,000

Ideally, the workflow should execute three iterations and send one email per record, displaying the corresponding Product and Price.

3. Actual Result / Issue Encountered

Currently, the workflow executes only one iteration, and the email contains the entire JSON response rather than the individual row values.

Additionally, the email output includes serialized .NET type information, such as:

  • System.String[][]
  • System.String[]
  • mscorlib

It appears that the nested array is being handled as a single serialized object rather than a collection of individual records that can be processed by the Workflow Loop.

Please refer to the attached zip file showing the actual email output.

4. Clarifications Required

We would appreciate guidance on the following:

  1. Deserialization of Nested JSON Arrays: How can we configure a SmartObject to deserialize the Google Sheets String[][] response into individual records with separate Product and Price properties?

What Service Broker are you using?

Initial review indicates that you many need to use a String System Type SmartObject or Service Object method to deserialize the String[][] values that you see in your email.

Are you able to provide that string output here?
