We are planning to use K2 Five, we have a doubt whether SharePoint is required or we can use only K2 five for hosting or publishing the site.
It would be great help for me to proceed, because we are using K2 for SharePoint now.

SharePoint is not required for Five. You can (and may people do) build complete applications without it. If you do have SharePoint it adds more tools to your kit, like document management. You can use SharePoint as another data source via SmartObjects and make use of the features it provides. But SharePoint is not a requirement.
I have it setup to use SharePoint, but we are just using SharePoint to store files to, all other work is being done through a DB. The performance when using SharePoint and K2 when using lists is not very good, so we have moved all large apps to DB. hope that helps
