Web Notification Considerations

The recommended best practice is to only pass data via a secure SSL (HTTPS) connection to minimize the risk of sensitive data being compromised. Note that this is also a requirement for certain security compliance standards such as PCI. It is also advisable to pass only the data essential to complete a transaction. For example, should an account in your system require only that a simple pass/fail notification be sent to indicate document completion, then only the minimum amount of data necessary to complete the transaction should be sent. It is, of course, always possible to pass along data that signatories have entered during the signing process through merge fields. However, if an account ID is available and sufficient as a data key, and merge field data is not required to be sent to perform some update operation, then also passing a signatory's name, address, phone and perhaps other private data would be redundant.

File Transfer Considerations

While AssureSign supports file transfer via FTP, our recommended best practice is to only pass documents via a secure channel such as FTP Over SSL (FTPS) or SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP) to minimize the risk of sensitive data being compromised. Note that this is also a requirement for certain security compliance standards such as PCI.
