Nintex Promapp - Declined Dashboard Notifications

Why do Dashboard Notifications for Processes that have been declined stay on the Approvers Dashboards?

The notifications remain until the Process is either subsequently Approved and Published or the Approval Process is restarted by saving the Process.  

This is so the Approvers can know there is outstanding work to be done on the Process, and the Process can be easily approved if required.
