Can a form's control save data to it's connected SharePoint list column if Appearance > Enabled is set to 'No' or if Advanced > Control Mode is set to 'Display'?

No, the control's Appearance requires Enabled to be set to 'Yes', and the Control Mode has to be set to 'Auto' or 'Edit' in order to save the control's data to the SharePoint list column.
