How to restrict image size in rich text area fields

My output document has several Rich Text Area fields which can contain multiple images. Since the output document will be emailed to a mailing list, I need the generated document to be less than 5 MB. Is there a way to control/ optimize the size of the images during document generation? Or limit the size of the output document?

Nintex merges images as they exist into documents, so we would recommend optimizing your images prior to uploading them into a rich text field. We would also recommend converting your output files to PDF since there is some level of optimization done with that process.

Another option would be to use a 'placeholder' image in the template. You would be able to configure the size of this image and the generated document would keep this size on the output. You can find this information here Dynamic Images in Templates
