Workflow Error: "The email address is invalid."

 

Symptoms

Workflow task completes successfully but workflow halts on the User Task step with error: "The email address : 9, is invalid."
 

Diagnoses

Since the error is happening after the event has processed, it points to an escalation field being the cause.
 

Resolution

Escalation email was set to use a User field instead of an email address.
