Symptoms

When we try to register the SharePoint Content service instance in production, I am getting following error.
VALIDATIONFailed to initialize the Context: Url: SharePoint List URL] Username: Blank] Error Details: Cannot contact site at the specified URL SharePoint List URL] There is no Web named "List URL/_vti_bin/sites.asmx". Source : SourceCode.SmartObjects.Services.Management

 

Diagnoses

The issue was caused by using the URL of the actual SharePoint list instead of the Site URL when registering SharePoint Content Service Instance.
 

Resolution

Using the Site URL allows the Service Instance to be registered successfully.
