Nintex Forms 2013 Validation Bug will not be fixed for months so I need a good work around suggestion

What about isNullOrEmpty({nameofcontrol})?
I just tried this for validation in a Nintex 2013 form on 2.9.0.0 and it works for me.
What are you trying to do? And, what version of forms?
