When assigning User/Groups permissions on a deployed workflow a drop down box
with the title security label ??? is displayed
this box is prepopulated with the values K2 / K2SQL .

can any security trimming be applied to the managagment workspace to enable or disable drop down values displayed in the security label drop down
A security label is a kind of proxy between you and the directory of your choice but I admit I don't have the final explanation concerning why K2 has implemented this.
You can add several security labels (you have to modify the database directly): this is detailed in a KB article, and discussed in this thread.
