While following the suggested K2 artifact naming conventions K2 provides in this document: http://help.k2.com/k2ls-qrs023.aspx, we found that you can not use the dot separator when if comes to workflow names.
 

Diagnoses

According to this document, the dot separator should not be used when naming K2 artifacts: http://help.k2.com/kb000299
 

Resolution

Seeing as the dot separator is a special character, it should not be used when naming K2 artifacts. The ticket was routed to the K2 LABS support team and the engineer working the ticket has logged a bug for the documentation team. This should be addressed in a future build of K2.
