Can you be a bit more specific? Or if you could post some screenshots of what your update item on your workflow does? Does it throw an error?

Hi,

Please open the update item and let us know what field are you updating. Is there anything special about the field (whats the data type)

When you click on the error (i.e. in detailed view) what is the error message? 

Did you try putting commit pending changes action before you try to use the action "update Item"?
