I've seen articles about how to create roles that are created dynamically, but what I would like to do is pre-define a couple of roles, and have the activity use just one of those roles as the destination user. Which role should be decided using some information stored within a Smart Object.
Any ideas how to accomplish this?

+11It sounds like you have almost described the answer in your question. You can use a SmartObject in a destination rule. When you use a SmartObject in a destination rule it will open a dialog that will allow you to specify the input (filter criteria) for the SmartObject and the returned field that should be used as the destination. Just have the name of the role in your return field and set the destination type to "Role" on the destination rule.
