Symptoms

When attempting to register a service instance for the SQL Reporting Service an error is displayed:

VALIDATIONCound not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.ReportViewer.Common, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral... or one of it's dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Diagnoses

When attempting to register a service instance for SQL Reporting Services, this error presents.

* Verified that the assembly was not found in C:WindowsassemblyGAC_MSILMicrosoft.ReportViewer.ProcessingObjectModel

* Verified that the Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 was not installed.
 

Resolution

Resolution: This assembly exists as part of the Microsoft Report Viewer Redistributable 2005 package available from Microsoft. Installing this redistributable resolved the issue.
