is it possible for a non-blackPearl machine to understand a Blackpearl/smartobject via a runtime assembly?

There is no need for a runtime on client machines. What kind of SmartObject are you using and looking for the client to interact with?
+1The concept is to create a K2 Smart object and transfer it as a binary object to be serialized at the remote location without having to have K2 Server sitting there, just a runtime component that knows how to de-serialize it back again into the same SmartObject
