Symptoms

I can not start the K2 service after modifying K2 configuration to use our new SQL 2014 database, I've attached the error and configuration logs
 

Diagnoses

After studying the k2 logfiles when running k2 in console mode this error appeared

"128829595","2016-06-12 15:35:13","Error","System","2001","ServerStartError","SourceCode.Hosting.Server.Runtime.HostServerEngine.StartHostServer","2001 Error Starting Host Server: Please create a master key in the database or open the master key in the session before performing this operation.
The key 'SCSSOKey' is not open.

the following is the solution repeated more than once (make sure expiry date is high ...EXPIRY_DATE = '01/01/2049') :
