I am building a Nintex workflow for a SharePoint 2013 list. I am making continuous changes, and I quickly run up the number of versions. Is there a way to (a) start an unpublished workflow as I am the only one who needs to run it, or (b) to unpublish a workflow so I have version 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, whatever and then publish it as 2.0 when it is ready to show to someone else?

+17No you cannot run an "unpublished version" as its not stored within the engine to run. You can and probably should export any "major version" you deem publishable and therfore can revert and republish to show/test as needed.
Not the easiest to do, but simply make changes and hit export will work. You will have to keep track of which export is which, however.
+1I'm marking this as the solution (sometimes, a valid answer is "no") but it would be a nice feature to be able to unpublish a workflow and publish it again, to control the version number. It works that way with every OOTB SharePoint library.
