Nintex Advance Preview - Responsive Forms for SharePoint/O365

Goal for advance preview

The goal of this advance preview is for users who have access to SharePoint Server or Office 365 to validate the functionality and test specific scenarios pertaining to using forms within the SharePoint ecosystem. 

What should I test?

Please focus on testing the following features:

  • Design canvas
    • Drag a control onto the design canvas from the toolbox
    • Drag a control next to another control
    • Reorder controls in a row
    • Reorder controls into other rows
  • Controls
    • Settings a Title on a control rather than using a Label control
    • Set a description on a control
    • Change the control width
    • Create a space to the left of a control (Having the control on the right of the canvas)
    • Delete a control
  • Rules
    • Create a rule to hide one control
    • Create a rule to hide multiple controls
  • Preview
    • Preview the form in 'Preview Devices'
    • Preview the form in 'Preview Form'
  • Filler experience
    • View the form on a desktop browser
    • View the form on a mobile browser

Are there any new features besides the Responsive Layout?

We are currently working to improve some UI elements which include:

  • Updated Rules panel
    • Select/Deselect all rules
    • Delete multiple rules
    • Drag/drop reorder rules
    • Update and simplified rules editor
  • Device preview (Separate from Preview)

Are there any controls or features that responsive forms will not support?
Yes, there are several controls that will not be supported in the responsive forms functionality, these include:

  • List View (On-premises only)
  • List item (On-premises only)
  • External data column (On-premises only)
  • Workflow diagram (On-premises only)
  • Publish as a Live form (on-premises only)
  • Border
  • Custom JavaScript
  • Custom CSS
  • Device layouts
  • Controls in use panel
  • Copy/paste control

Can I use custom JavaScript with these responsive forms?

No. Our intent is to provide the controls and capabilities customers typically reverted to JavaScript for such as UI constructs, setting default values and additional validation of the product. JavaScript functionality will remain available in the ‘Pixel Perfect’ forms.

    ‌ so what are the next steps? When do you think the feedback from our posts will be reflected in changes made to the RWD Forms? And when will the new challenges be added? happy.png

    Can you tell us ETA for the RWD Forms to become GA? When would it be possible to speak about them loudly?

    I would also like to join beta testing for NWC. How can I do that?

    Hi ,

    The team are currently working on Repeating Sections, Container (Replaces Panel), and Styles. I still need to check when that drop will be but I would expect something in a couple of weeks.

    I will be reviewing the feedback so far with the teams and will incorporate into our sprints. Will update this section with more detail soon.

    Some quick feedback before I get into the challenges..

    1) Kind of weird how you have to use the arrows to move things around in the zone. For example, I replaced the top default image with a label. Used the arrows to do like a page break and to center the label. I feel like I should be able to drag around in the zone more.

    2) Preview - Preview Form Doesn't work for me. Also the Top drop down in the pop up window doesn't work either. I am using Chrome, not sure that has anything to do with it.

    3) It a minute to see the arrows to move around in the zones.

    4) Overall It was faster to create the form, to not have to worry about every items position. I really like how you can move a whole row of controls at a time. The interface is simple, and the default looks a lot cleaner than pixel perfect.

    5) I think people will miss repeating sections, but it sounds like that is getting worked on.

    6) I wish I could make the Multiline Text Box Bigger, and it should expand as you type in more lines. Kind of annoying how small this is.

    7) What scenarios are you looking to address with responsive forms?

           I think responsive forms fit right into what people are already using. It will just allow us to create the forms faster because we are already using mobile layouts, so now we don't have to create 7 different layouts for all the devices we need to target. All the scenarios people use before are still relevant now.

    Hi Ben Stori‌,

    That's a great question you ask about the "What scenarios are you looking to address with responsive forms?". Essentially, we built Responsive Forms with three main focus areas "Responsive layout", "Modern style", "Quick and easy to build".

    The existing 'Classic' form designer will still be available if you require pixel-perfect positioning of controls with advanced CSS and JavaScript. However, if you need a form build fast, with a good style, Responsive is the choice. Hoping this new layout will be easier for our less technical users to build forms.
