Symptoms


I am installing the 4.7 February 2017 CU to our production K2 and the update seems to have gotten stuck. The message "K2 smartforms for Sharepoint is not installed on this machine" is concerning because we do use smartforms for Sharepoint and have a number of K2 Sharepoint forms in production.


This update in on our dev servers only took about 20 minutes. This update on our prod servers has been stuck for almost an hour. K2 is unavailable.
 

Diagnoses


We noticed a lot of errors in the Event Logs on a lot of smartobjects like the one below:
Could not Publish Smartobject Definition to Server: Authorization Failed.

The issue was actually related to the K2 Service Account not having Smartbox Permissions. There was a different K2Admin group which had these rights, but did not contain the Service Account.
 

Resolution

Once we added the K2 Service Account to the permissions for Smartbox (Workspace>Management console> Smartbox>Security) and re-ran the CU, it finished successfully within a minute.
