When upgrading from Foxtrot (version 15.1.13 or below) to RPA LE (version 16.0.4 and higher), you may want to test your botflows (aka scripts) before upgrading your production environment to the new version.

**Please note that we always suggest that you start with the newest version of RPA LE available. It will be listed at the top of the Release Notes page at

https://help.nintex.com/en-US/platform/ReleaseNotes/NintexRPA.htm

It is suggested that you set up a test environment for RPA LE on a different machine than the one you have Foxtrot installed on so that you can prepare the environment, import your botflows and test. Also, since RPA uses RPA Central instead of Foxtrot Administrator, you will need to get used to some of the changes. Please see the FAQ at the bottom of this article.

You will receive a new key when you upgrade. If you were not given a new key, please contact Support@nintex.com and let us know that you want to upgrade from Foxtrot to RPA LE. If you have a new key, then the Foxtrot key will be deactivated usually 30 to 90 days after you receive your new key so that you have time to set up RPA LE and move your botflows over.

Steps to Upgrade from Foxtrot to RPA:
**Please note, you cannot install RPA LE on the same machine as Foxtrot, you will need to uninstall Foxtrot first.

  1. Backup your botflows (aka scripts) that are located by default in c:\ProgramData\FoxtrotSuite.
  2. If you are going to use the same environment and you are ready to move your botflows over, you will need to uninstall Foxtrot Suite from the machine. **If you have two environments/two keys, skip this step.
  3. Go to Release Notes Page for downloads of the newest versions of RPA Central and RPA Bot: https://help.nintex.com/en-US/platform/ReleaseNotes/NintexRPA.htm.
  4. Follow the steps in the Pre-Installation Checklist and Installation guides below:
    https://help.nintex.com/en-US/rpa/Central/Preinstallationchecklist.htm#Review_the_pre-installation_checklist
    https://help.nintex.com/en-US/rpa/Central/Installation.htm#Set_your_Nintex_RPA_Central_URL%C2%A0and_security_certificate
  5. Install RPA Central.

  6. Install RPA Bot.

  7. Import your botflows from backup that you created in step 1.
    • Open the bot.
    • Click Botflow in the toolbar
    • Choose Bulk Import.
    • Select the folder where you saved your botflows.

**Please note that the conversion tool will help you convert your botflows that interact with browsers from Internet Explorer to Chrome or Edge, please see the help documents below:

Additional Information
Frequently asked questions:

  • Can you run both versions on the same machine or server setup? No, even though they are separate instances, they both use the same resources to run the botflows and this would cause conflicts and errors.
  • Will my botflows automatically convert? If they have an extension that is .FSP or .FOX, they will automatically convert to the new .RPA. If they are .FSF, they will need to be manually converted. Please see this help document for more information:
    • Converting Foxtrot Legacy (.FSF) Scripts to .RPA
    • Botflows are, by default, saved at c:\Program Data\FoxtrotSuite for versions 15.x.x and below. It is a best practice to create backups of your botflows so you will not have to start from scratch in the event of an unforeseen circumstance.
  • Having a test environment with a trial key, or your new Enterprise Key, is the best way to make sure you are ready to move over to the new version. This way you can keep your production environment running while you test your botflows on the new version and make any adjustments before turning that new version live. To request a 30-day trial key, please send an email to Support@nintex.com and ask for a trial version of Nintex RPA LE.
  • Browser information: The new versions of RPA work best with Chrome and Edge, but they can still work with Internet Explorer. Just keep in mind that Microsoft has discontinued support for IE so you will eventually need to retarget your botflows in Chrome, but you may be able to put it off for a little bit while you get used to the new version of RPA LE and get everything else set up. The conversion tool will help with this step.
    • Conversion Tool: In version 17.8 of RPA LE Bot we added a Conversion Tool that will automatically convert most of your browser actions from IE to Chrome or Edge and also between Chrome and Edge.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please send an email to Support@nintex.com and type RPA LE in the subject line so it is routed quickly and correctly.
