Known Issue: K2 Workflows context menu item not displaying.

KB003670

PRODUCT
K2 Five
BASED ON
K2 Five

Issue

When using the new style SharePoint Framework (Spfx) apps together with K2 for SharePoint on a SharePoint 2019 modern site, your K2 Workflows context menu item may not display.

Cause

This issue occurs when you use SharePoint 2019 on prem with Modern sites and other third party Spfx apps, which add command bar extensions on the SharePoint site.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, do the following:

  1. Install K2 Five (5.4) Fix Pack 38
  2. Install the new K2 for SharePoint app (KB003636 - Version 5.0001.1000.102)
  3. Execute the Manage ECB Actions method of the SharePoint Integration Helper Methods SmartObject to add the action to all existing activated site collections

Install K2 Five (5.4) Fix Pack 38

See the steps below for installing the fix pack:

  1. Ensure you have the correct K2 version and/or Cumulative update installed. See KB001893 to see which fix pack level you have installed.
  2. Download the latest fix pack from K2 Five Cumulative Updates and Fixpacks using the links in the table for the version you require. Alternatively, use this link for Fix Pack 38.
  3. Install the Fix Pack to apply the fix.

Install the new K2 for SharePoint app

A new version of the K2 for SharePoint application is available. This version removes the K2 Workflows context menu item from the app. When running Site Activation, the K2 Workflows context menu item is added to the site directly. This allows you to use the K2 for SharePoint app together with new SharePoint framework (Spfx) apps that add items to the List View command bar.

See the steps below for installing the K2 for SharePoint app:

  1. Download the new K2 for SharePoint app (KB003636 - Version 5.0001.1000.102).
  2. Update the K2 for SharePoint app.

Steps to update the K2 for SharePoint app:

  1. Upload the new K2 for SharePoint app package on your App Catalog site using the Apps for SharePoint list. If there is an existing K2 for SharePoint app in the app catalog, you must replace the existing version with the new version. Do not delete the existing version of the K2 for SharePoint app.
  2. Verify that the version of the K2 for SharePoint app package has updated to 5.0001.1000.102
  3. The installed instance of the K2 for SharePoint app should automatically upgrade within 24 hours of installing the package. If you want to update the version manually, continue to the next step.
  4. On the Site Contents page of the app catalog, click the upgrade link for K2 for SharePoint app. (If you do not see the link, go into the Details page for the app to upgrade it).
It is not required to rerun the Registration wizard or Site Activation after updating the app.

Execute the Manage ECB Actions method of the SharePoint Integration Helper Methods SmartObject

When you upgrade the K2 for SharePoint app, the K2 Workflows context menu disappears from all site collections. You must run the following system SmartObject method to add it to all activated SharePoint site collections. See the steps below about executing the method:

  1. Using K2 Management, navigate to Categories > System > SharePoint 2013 Integration > SharePoint Integration Helper Methods SmartObject.
  2. Execute the Manage ECB Actions method with the following input properties:
    • Action: Add
    • Action Name: K2 Workflows
  3. This adds the K2 Workflows ECB action to all activated SharePoint site collections.
