Nintex Workflow on-premise allows for workflow constants to be created in Central Administration > Nintex Workflow Management > Manage Workflow Constants. These constants can hold any data that is repeatedly used and allows for a central location to change the data.
One problem is that credentials can be stored as a workflow constant which means that any workflow designer can then use those credentials in their workflows which is not always acceptable.
Workflow constants can be secured.

Workflow constants can be secured.
Instructions
1. Create your workflow constant in Central Administration > Nintex Workflow Management > Manage Workflow Constants.
2. Now Highlight the action and from the ribbon select Edit Permissions.
3. Add only the Workflow designers user accounts that are allowed to use those credentials.
When a Designer tries to insert a string, date, number, credential etc stored in a Workflow constant that they do not have access to it will not display as an option to add.
When a Designer tries to edit a workflow that has an action with a secured workflow constant they will see a warning popup at the time of publish and will not be able to publish the workflow.
