Workflows on a particular list are stuck on starting. Checking the internal status of the workflow instance shows the following error.

Error: List data validation failed

Check if any validation settings are enabled on your list. Navigate to list settings -> Validation settings. There will be validation rule associated to a list field causing the workflow to fail to update a specified field.
