Is there a way to remove the "View in SharePoint" and "View workflow status" buttons on the Lazy Approval email (please see attached image).

These buttons come from Actionable Messaging and there is no way to edit this.
You can turn Actionable Messaging off to remove all buttons or try creating your own actionable message.
