Setting up a document automation process in Nintex Workflow or Nintex Apps has never been simpler—even when you need to merge dynamic tags for customer names, dates, or invoice numbers. In this guide and video, learn how to create a Word template with dynamic tags for customer names, dates, or invoice numbers. 

Follow these steps:

  • Setup: Create a document package
  •  Upload or create a Word template
  •  Edit the template and add tags
  •  Create and insert dynamic tags
  • Refresh & save
  •  Manage templates: Replace, download, or delete

🛠️ Setup: Create a document package

  1. From the main Documents tab, click Create Package.
  2. Give your package a name:
    • Click Settings
    • Enter a name for the package
    • Click Save

📄 Upload or create your Word template

You can either use the built-in Word editor or upload an existing file.

  1. Click Upload Template
  2. Once the file is uploaded, it appears in the Preview Pane

✍️ Edit the template and add tags

Now we’ll make the document dynamic.

  1. Click Edit on the template
  2. A new editing window opens
  3. On the right-hand toolbar, select Nintex Tagger

🔖 Create and insert dynamic tags

Each tag represents a piece of dynamic data

In the Tagger panel, type the name of your field into the blank input field

  1. Click Add to create the tag
  2. Repeat for each data field you want to merge
  3. To insert the tag into the document:
    • Place your cursor where you want the tag
    • Click the ➕ icon next to the tag name

🔄 Refresh & save

  1. Switch back to the Package Designer tab
  2. Click Refresh to sync the updated template
  3. Review your document for correct tag placement
  4. Click Save to finalize the document package

🗂 Manage templates: Replace, download, or delete

To replace or delete the current template:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Click the three dots next to the file name
  3. Choose Replace, Download, or Delete
