I’m having an issue with query a list for SPO in NAC.

I came across this particular post from 3 years ago. Querying a list in SharePoint Online fails to lookup person or group column | Community (nintex.com)

I’m receiving the same error response.

Is there a workaround for this yet to ignore the empty values but keep the ones that have an email?! I need to create a scheduled workflow to query all items in a list based on other fields (not even the one I’m having issues with) so I can send out reminders based on due dates. Looking like I can’t even do this….:(

Ok, just a quick update. We tested this in power automate, there is no restriction for the “get items” which is the equivalent to the “query a list”. Is this something someone can look into, as to why it won’t just return the record to an object and just have an EMPTY value for fields like that?

Start event triggers work just fine in NAC when these conditions are met in a multi-people field - it just returns the field as empty. Why can’t the same result happen with query a list or retrieve an item?

Power Automate allows us to query a list or record and lists the individual property as NULL for the email property. The rest of the emails come through in the array.

If not, does anyone know if selecting columns to query filter is in the roadmap to avoid this so we can only pick specific columns to query similar to data sources for query a list? I cannot support this enhancement to this solution for our customer with Nintex tools. I will have to revert to a “hybrid” concept and use Power Automate to send reminders out for past due items in the list. :(

Hi @brandiwoodson

I took a look at this and was only able to repro it if I had an account that was in a multiple select people picker as opposed to a single select people picker.  Can you confirm if the field you’re seeing this for is multiple select as well?

If it is I suspect we probably make an additional call to get the email for the user which would be where the actual error comes from and I’d recommend raising a support case to investigate why it only fails in the multiple select option.

Yes, it’s a multiple person or group field in SharePoint online list. There are numerous reasons why an account would not have an email listed in the email property within Microsoft Entra.

A start event trigger will run when an item is created with an account that has no email that is in the collection of people listed. However, the query a list will not even run - the workflow fails. We do not even have the option to query a list of data that has these anomalies in a Multi person field in the list. I will log a ticket.
