Update (July 2025):
After working closely with Microsoft, we have been able to test the upcoming changes related to the SharePoint SendEmail API retirement. Based on our testing, we do not expect this deprecation to impact existing Nintex workflows.

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates if anything changes. For now, no immediate action is required for workflows using the affected actions.

Microsoft has announced the retirement of the SharePoint SendEmail API on October 31, 2025 which is used for internal SharePoint emails. This significant change will directly impact Nintex Workflow for Office 365 customers who utilize the following actions:

  • Send an Email (when Internal Email is selected)
  • Assign a Task (when Lazy Approval is not selected)
  • Start a Task Process (when Lazy Approval is not selected)

To mitigate the potential disruption caused by this retirement, we strongly recommend migrating your affected workflows to Nintex Automation Cloud before October 31, 2025.

If you intend to keep your workflows within Office 365, you will need to update the affected actions to use external email.

Mitigation Steps:

  1. Send an Email: Select ‘External Email’ under email service option.
  2. Task Actions: Select the ‘Allow LazyApproval’ option.

Additional Reminder

Please note that Nintex Workflow for Office 365 will reach its end of support in December 2025 and will cease to function entirely in April 2026 due to the retirement of the Office 365 add-in app model.

We encourage you to proactively address these upcoming changes to ensure the continued smooth operation of your workflows.

If you have any questions or require further assistance, please feel free to respond to this post or contact our support team directly.

Will the Nintex for O365 tasks work as expected after 31/10/2025 or can we only use the "LazyApproval option” after that date? The impact for our users isn't very clear to me.

If they aren’t using that option the emails may not go out or task may fail, we are still seeking some clarity on what will happen but currently we have to assume it won’t work.Once we have a confirmation, I will update this post.

Hi @leighburke,

If we want to continue using Nintex for Office 365 Workflow and convert the Task Actions (Start a task Process / Assign a Task) to Lazy Approvals then will the link to Task Forms be still available in the email body or the Task Responsible can only complete the Task from their outlook and no longer from the Task Forms?
Thank you in advance.

@akash.saraswat19 See my update above, based on our testing you shouldn’t need change those existing workflows. In the above case however though they could still complete the task via a form if needed even if lazy approval was enabled.
