Introduction

KB001320 updates all K2 blackpearl 4.5 and K2 blackpoint 4.5 installations with the latest product hotfixes, as detailed below. The installer will update K2 4.5 32-bit and 64-bit installations.

Update Options

• For customers who already have K2 blackpearl 4.5 or K2 blackpoint 4.5 installed, download and install this update.
• For customers who do not have K2 blackpearl or K2 blackpoint installed, download the full K2 4.5 with KB001320 installer from portal.k2.com.

Issues Resolved

The following issues have been fixed and are contained within this update:

• The K2 Server could not be contacted when executing the AD User SmartObject or AD Group SmartObject methods when certificates were not present which resulted in errors stating 'Input string was not in the correct format' and 'SmartObject not found'. These errosr occur in a Windows 2003 Server environment.

• In K2 Services the <security> node was incorrectly configured as mode="None" for each binding in the Update KB001290 web.config instead of <security mode="">.

For SyncREST :
<binding name="SourceCode.Services.SyncRestBinding+HTTPS">
<security mode="Transport">
<transport clientCredentialType="None" />
</security>
</binding>
For SynWCF :
<binding name="SourceCode.Services.SyncWcfBinding+HTTPS">
<security mode="Transport">
<transport clientCredentialType="None" />
</security>
</binding>

For REST :
<binding name="SourceCode.Services.RestBinding+HTTP">
<security mode="TransportCredentialOnly">
<transport clientCredentialType="None" />
</security>
</binding>

For WCF :
<binding name="SourceCode.Services.WcfBinding+HTTP">
<security mode="TransportCredentialOnly">
<transport clientCredentialType="None" />
</security>
</binding>

• The K2 WCF Services parameters were case sensitive resulting in data fields and XML fields of a process instance and activity instance destination on a WorklistItem object not to load correctly.
• SmartObject Integration – The “Integrate with SmartObject” Context Menu on InfoPath forms result in an error stating "The URL is not a valid format. Parameter name: URL".

• An error occurs at runtime when the "Upload Document" event is configured to copy or move a document across site boundaries.
Error Message:

Image

• On a 64- bit environment after upgrading to K2 4.5 Update KB001290 the Word Documents Event wizard was not visible in the Visual Studio toolbox, however, it was in K2 Studio.
• An Object Reference error occurs when attempting to select a process to be called in the IPC Event wizard. This is caused by a deleted process definition from disk which is still available in the solution.

Image

• In K2 Designer for SharePoint when adding an expression in a text field the validation fails if the expression does not return a text value. The Expression Builder validation does not allow textboxes to receive other data types besides text.
• When deploying a K2 Designer for SharePoint process that contains multiple escalations the deployment fails with the following error:
Error Message:
“System.Exception: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
at SourceCode.WebDesigner.Authoring.SharePoint.GenerateProcess.CreateActivityMultiEscalations(XmlNode activity, Activity newActivity, Process newProcess)…”
• An error stating "SmartObject Server Exception: This SqlTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable." occurs when refreshing SmartObjects for SharePoint. However, despite the error message the SmartObject is actually created.

Image

This error is masked by a problem with SQL transactions but is actually caused by a timeout. Enhancements have been made to make the timeout on the command objects configurable.

The CommandTimeout value can be specified in the configuration file below:
[InstallDir]Host ServerBinSourceCode.SmartObjects.Runtime.config

Example of a configured command timeout value of 120 seconds.

<configuration>
<appSettings>
...
<add key="commandtimeout" value="120"/>
...

Errors experienced with OpenInfoPathTask.aspx after installing K2 4.5 Update KB001290 on non-English environments
Error Message:
"Server was unable to process request. ---> Object reference not set to an instance of an object"
The error is thrown when a user clicks on the worklist item in order to action the tasks. It is caused by attempting to retrieve the “Form” content type on the SharePoint site. However, there is no such Content Type in certain environments such as a French system, since the name for “Form “ in French is “Formulere”.

• When trying to open an existing workflow designed in the K2 Designer for SharePoint after upgrading to K2 4.5 Update KB001290 an error displayed stating "An error has occurred while parsing the process XML".
• Unable to drag a SmartObject property field onto the Average Inline Function in K2 Designer for SharePoint.
Error Message:
"Object of type 'System.String'cannot be converted to type 'System.Decimal[]',"
This was caused by previous incorrect handling of array types passed in as single value parameters into the inline function. This behaviour was fixed in Update KB001290 but caused the above backwards compatibility issue.
• When using an inline function to subtract a value from another value to determine a new value an error stating "Input string was not in the correct format" occurs.This was caused by added type validation in Update KB001290.

Behavior changes

1. Prior to K2 4.5 with Update KB001230, it was possible to select SharePoint fields (including hidden fields) that would be retrieved from a SharePoint List or Library on the Metadata Mapping and Folio screen of the SharePoint Workflow Integration Wizard (for example, Created Date). In K2 4.5 with update KB1230 or higher, it is no longer possible to retrieve these SharePoint hidden fields within the wizard. These hidden fields will be surfaced in the K2 Object Browser for processes that have been set up for K2 SharePoint Workflow Integration. The Workflow Integration creates an XML field called SharePoint_Item containing all the SharePoint Item metadata column values. This XML field is populated on workflow start and contains values for the SharePoint item at runtime. Note that the same behavior will be experienced in other SharePoint wizards that include the metadata control.

hs-note.gif Note: If the K2 Configuration Manager does not complete successfully, the update will not be installed properly and your K2 installation will not function correctly.
9. Post Installation step (optional)
Multiple Bindings Microsoft Framework .NET 3.5 does not support multiple bindings in IIS without configuring a single address and setting up a prefix filter as per the following MSDN KB (Refer to section ‘Multiple IIS Binding Support in .NET Framework 3.5’): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa751841.aspx
Some of the following errors may occur when bindings are incorrectly configured.

• Could not find a base address that matches scheme http for the endpoint with binding WebHttpBinding. Registered base address schemes are [].
• No protocol binding matches the given address 'http://api.denallix.com:85/K2Services/REST.svc/Worklist/Items'. Protocol bindings are configured at the Site level in IIS or WAS configuration.
• The resource cannot be found.
• This collection already contains an address with scheme http. There can be at most one address per scheme in this collection. Parameter name: item

The K2 installation will not configure entries. To configure K2 Services to support a web site with multiple bindings add a prefix entry for the binding you wish to support in the section of the K2 Services web.config found at [Installation Directory]WebServicesK2Servicesweb.config.

Example of supporting the http://api.denallix.com:81 binding on an IIS site with multiple bindings.

<serviceHostingEnvironment aspNetCompatibilityEnabled="true">
<baseAddressPrefixFilters>
<add prefix="http://api.denallix.com:81" />
<add prefix="https://api.denallix.com:443" />
</baseAddressPrefixFilters>
</serviceHostingEnvironment>

1. Post Installation step
To view the new icons in K2 Designer for SharePoint clear your browser's cache.
2. Expected behavior
K2 uses Microsoft Windows Installer technology to install all updates. When the Windows Installer patch (.msp file) is applied to its associated component it will return a status text of “Repairing” during the update process. This happens even though an Update and not a Repair is being performed.
