The easiest way to do this would be inside of the Word template using the table styles(https://support.office.com/en-us/article/apply-table-styles-0f19e350-f9a1-4a9f-afdb-46ee2bb8460c).

Are you able to provide an example of what you are trying to do with the rule? There isn't an odd/even rule but there may be another way to achieve the result.
