I installed skuid in my developer edition org and I can't get skuid pages to display in place of the

We are using a private sharing model.  I made Page and Page Assignment Public Read/Write.  The skuid pages don’t show up in place of the standard account view.

Can you provide more information about what you’ve already done regarding any Visualforce overrides?

I ask because there are a number of ways to approach this. A popular way is detailed in our “Override a Detail Page” tutorial. You may have some of these steps completed already, and just need to set up a Visualforce page that points to your Skuidified page, then edit the Account View action (via Salesforce setup) so it opens your custom Visualforce page.
