Issue
A Nintex Workflow fails at the "Call Web Service" action using the StartWorkflowOnListItem operation of the /_vti_bin/nintexworkflow/workflow.asmx web service stating the following:
"The selected workflow '<Workflow Name>' is already running on list item with ID <Item ID> in list '<List Name>' on site https://<Site URL>"
Error Code
The selected workflow '<Workflow Name>' is already running on list item with ID <Item ID> in list '<List Name>' on site https://<Site URL>
Resolution
Referring to the details of the error message, conduct the following steps:
- Navigate to the list or library where the workflow is published.
- Find the item in question.
- For the item, click on the ellipse (. . .) > Workflows > Under the 'Running Workflows' section, check if there is an instance of the workflow already running.
- Depending on the state of the workflow, you can either let the existing instance complete or terminate the instance.
Additional Information
Only 1 instance of a list workflow can be running on an item or document at a time. If an instance is already running on the item, the web service will fail.
