Nintex Community Menu Bar

We’re continuing to expand the capabilities that Nintex Data supports.  We’ve recently added support for large text fields that support rich text.  This makes document generation even more powerful.

We've always respected document formatting when generating documents.  If you place your tag into a bulleted list, the items in that tag will come out as a bulleted list.  By respecting the original formatting of the document, you can create very accurate documents.

In this blog, I'll continue on from my previous blog where we use Nintex data as the source for document generation but note you're not restricted to just using Nintex data - you can populate your document from any data source.  I’ve assumed you’ve read the previous blog which provides some context and some fundamentals on using Nintex data and document generation.

In that blog we simulated a council and making public spaces available for hire.  There's a plain text field that provides a description of the public space and that was used in a document we generated.  Let's enhance this and use a rich text field instead - that gives the council officers direct control about how they want to describe that area.

I'll open up the table I was using and create a new data type: Text - Long

Please remember to set the rich text flag

Now I can edit my data directly from this interface.  I can also create data from a Nintex form and save the rich text here too.  For this example, I'll edit the data directly in the Nintex table.

You can see I've only used a subset of the rich text controls that we've made available so please feel free to open up the interface and have an explore.

Now the new field has been updated, I'll go and update my workflow to reference that field instead of the old plain-text one.

And now the very easy bit - update the document template and use the tag for the formatted description.

Now let's run the workflow and check out the output

You can see the document has brought over all of the formatting that was placed into the Nintex table.  Once again, it gives the end user even more control over the output.

Have fun experimenting using this new capability!
