Introduction

K2 blackpearl has included many varieties of SharePoint support throughout the product releases. This article describes the various components that released with K2 blackpearl, either as installable components or separate installers, what features they include and the support plan.

K2 for MOSS 2007/WSS 3.0

This component support includes the MOSS 2007/WSS 3.0 workflow wizards and installed the following items:

  • SharePoint Functions service broker. Internal service used to query SharePoint for User Information.
  • SharePoint Service V2 service broker. Configured per site, this broker allows you to configure which lists and libraries to expose as SmartObjects to interact with SharePoint items, such as list items, documents, folders, and list item attachments. Also used to read user information such as user details, colleagues, peers, managers, and direct reports.
  • K2 for MOSS 2007/WSS 3.0 Web Services. Installed on the SharePoint server.

Support

Supported SharePoint versions include:

  • MOSS 2007/WSS 3.0/Forms Server 2007
    • Editions: All
    • Versions: SP3
  • SharePoint 2010
    • Editions: Foundation, Standard, Enterprise
    • Versions: RTM, SP1, SP2, Latest CU
    • On-premises: Yes
    • Online: No
Note: These components are not supported on SharePoint 2013 in any configuration. If you require support for SharePoint 2010 mode on SharePoint 2013-based servers or SharePoint 2013 native mode on-premises or online, please see either K2 for SharePoint 2010 or K2 for SharePoint 2013 in SharePoint 2010 Mode.

 

End-of-Life

The items included with this component targeted MOSS 2007, WSS 3.0 and Forms Server 2007. K2's Microsoft Support Plan highlights when support will be deprecated, specifically: "The most recently released version of a Microsoft product and at least one older version will be supported."

In K2 4.7 these items are no longer supported, if you are upgrading your existing K2 environment you will be able to do so. However, issues found relating to the underlying technology product will not be eligible for code fixes.

 

K2 for SharePoint 2010

This component support includes the SharePoint 2010 workflow wizards and installed the following items:

  • SharePoint Content service broker. Interacts with SharePoint items using the SharePoint CSOM (List Items, Documents, Folders, Document Sets, List Item Attachments) and reads SharePoint Taxonomy information.
  • SharePoint Management service broker. Interacts with SharePoint containers using the SharePoint CSOM (Lists, Libraries, Sites, Site Collections). 
  • K2 for SharePoint 2010 Web Services. Installed on the SharePoint server.

Support

Supported SharePoint versions include:

  • SharePoint 2010
    • Editions: Foundation, Standard, Enterprise
    • Versions: RTM, SP1, SP2, Latest CU
    • On-premises: Yes
    • Online: No. Although SharePoint 2010 Online was supported with these components, it is no longer offered as a product from Microsoft. Therefore, this is no longer possible to use.

End-of-Life

The items included with this component targeted SharePoint 2010. K2's Microsoft Support Plan highlights when support will be deprecated, specifically: "The most recently released version of a Microsoft product and at least one older version will be supported."

K2 for SharePoint 2013 in SharePoint 2010 Mode

This component support includes the SharePoint 2010 workflow wizards and installs the following items:

  • SharePoint Management service broker. Interacts with SharePoint containers using the SharePoint CSOM (Lists, Libraries, Sites, Site Collections). 
  • K2 for SharePoint 2010 Web Services. Installed on the SharePoint server.

Support

Important: There is no support implied for these components when integrating with a SharePoint 2013 native mode site or site collection. You must install and configure the K2 for SharePoint app on SharePoint 2013 native mode sites, and cannot directly integrate with SharePoint 2013 native mode sites through any K2 service broker.

      • SharePoint 2010 Compatibility Mode site collections
      • SharePoint 2013 site collections by appending &AllowSP2010=1 to the URL querystring of the K2 Activate All K2 Features and K2 Configuration settings page. Additional details can be found in KB001380
      • NOTE: This support applies to SharePoint 2010 and SharePoint 2013 On-premises only, there is no support for SharePoint Online with these items.
    • Online: No

K2 for SharePoint 2013/2016 

This component support includes the SharePoint 2013 workflow wizards and installed the following items:

  • SharePoint 2013 service broker. Interacts with SharePoint items using the SharePoint CSOM and REST (List Items, Documents, Folders, Document Sets, List Item Attachments) and reads SharePoint Taxonomy information and Managed Metadata. Service Instances are configured per site collection and you may limit which Lists and Libraries to expose as SmartObjects.
  • SharePoint 2013 Integration service broker. Internal service broker used for integration operations between SharePoint and K2. 
  • K2 for SharePoint 2013 App. Added to the SharePoint App catalog and then deployed and activated to site collections from there.

    • Only support for the equivalent SharePoint 2013 Artifacts, no new SharePoint 2016 functionality
Note: This component is not compatible with SharePoint Foundation and is only compatible with sites running in SharePoint 2013 native mode. These components do not support any SharePoint 2010 mode functionality. Please see K2 for SharePoint 2013 in SharePoint 2010 Mode or K2 for SharePoint 2010 if you need support for any SharePoint 2010 functionality or integration.

As such, these items will remain supported until there is a K2 release that offers integration with the next two versions of SharePoint.
