This week, we're answering one of the most frequently asked questions in the RPA industry: what is the difference between RPA and AI. We checked in with what RPA specialists across the web are sharing. See what they have to say here:

1) "AI as a technical stream, tries to learn and emulate human intelligence by understanding patterns in historical data. It adds cognitive flavors to the range of automation activities. Be it mechanical bots carrying out the shop-floor chores; or a medical bot performing complex surgeries; or “software bots” the digital workers managing your enterprise's back-end operations; artificial intelligence supports these bots (or automation programs) to make decisions and keep improving them without further human interventions.

RPA, on the other hand as a tech stream, helps in amplifying the business values through significant productivity increase, lower turnaround time, and improved quality of task execution. Irrespective of the industry, most of the automation technology platforms support automation of any repetitive and rule based human processes.

AI as an enabler, bolsters RPA to be more resilient, productive, and a robust platform."

2) "Basically, we can associate RPA with 'doing' whereas AI is about 'thinking' and 'learning'. AI algorithms are basically focusing on classifying data and making predictions according to this classification.

On the other hand, RPA deals with automating digital processes by identifying them as process flows. For instance, when we want to search a product in a certain website and then listing the information of the product in an excel, RPA can manage these tasks:

-It goes to websites

-Makes a search

-Collects the data

-Make a list in excel"

3) "Robotic Process Automation is governed by structural inputs and business logic. Their main goal is to automate the business process and work complementary with the employees. Artificial Intelligence is a form of technology used to replace human labor. Combining both RPA and artificial intelligence can create a fully autonomous process.

For instance, RPA software can be used to scan bills and place them in accounting software. With AI, it can automatically detect and sort the bills in the specified order and let bots use it. Artificial Continuum is when Artificial Intelligence and RPA are used together."
