I am new in working with API’s and I’m trying to create a connection to an external API in Nintex Automation Cloud. The API I am trying to connect to is a Custom API. Is there a Nintex Cloud Xtension or a different way connect this API to Nintex Data Sources?

For a custom API, you would need to create your own Xtension.
If you are not confident in building an Xtension, the alternative would be to use the Call a web service action to interact with the API, but you could not use this for a data source.

We currently engaged with our CRM developer as the API documentation we were provided from them wasn’t enough to make Get/Post calls. Our current plan is to use Swagger 2.0 and the Nintex Xtension to get the API data into Nintex. I’ll keep you updated if I have any more future questions.
