Does anyone know what the autocomplete option in the escalation section of a task form does? Does it autocomplete the task to move the workflow forward, if the assigned person doesnt complete it?

Yes, but you have to define the outcome. If you don’t want an outcome defined, which in most cases for us we don’t, you can disable outcomes and put a choice field on your task for to represent an “outcome” concept and make it required. Then after the task use a branch by value condition listing out your actual outcomes for the branches or options and just put “Other” for a branch that would never match them. Set the “Other” branch as the default, then when no response, it takes a different path.

It kind of sucks they don’t offer an OOB solution when outcomes are enabled to have an “Other” option but that is the only way to not force a outcome response, otherwise you get a false “outcome”. But if you are ok with a false “approve” or “reject” or whatever you set your outcomes to, then you don’t need to go through any of the above. Just pick the default outcome on the auto complete configuration and move on.
