There are several issues like workflow not triggering, getting stuck in pause, wait, commit pending changes. So is there any way to check what is causing all these issues?

the best is always check the ULS logs :https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/administration/view-diagnostic-logs
the actions you mentioned issues most likely will be originating from the SPTimer service. so check the ULS logs for SPTimer.
