Question

Populate other controls using the same data lookup in NAC

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Hello, I’m a fairly advanced user of Nintex 2016 and we’re converting to NAC. I’m trying to rebuild some forms and workflows using NAC and SharePoint-on-prem but I’m having a heck of a time with this new environment that is very different from what I’m used to. I’m looking at using a SharePoint-on-prem list as a data lookup for my form. I can get the dropdown to select the name column from the SharePoint list but I want to be able to select other columns from the list to populate other controls on the form, but I haven’t been successful figuring out how to do this. There’s no longer a calculated value control to do this in NAC. I’ve viewed some videos that have a data connection as an option to create but that’s not available to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi @ABITGuy

Think what you’re looking for is the external data variables.  To start, for your data lookup control, have the option value returned be the ID of the item looked up.  After that click into the data variables tab and select external data.  When you create a variable you’ll be prompted to create select a data source for the variable.  Select the same source you used in your data lookup, then in conditions specify that the ID = (data lookup ID) and click save.   The new variable’s first item will be an object with all the fields from the data source that you can use in rules to populate your other fields.

Thanks @brent_read Weird thing is I can’t seem to use Id in the condition. It wants me to select “equals an integer, does not equal an integer, Greater than”, etc. and the Value doesn’t allow me to select the data Lookup ID (greyed out). I assume I get the data lookup ID via the dropdown control I’ve already set up and is working? It’s listed when I try to insert item on the Value field of the condition but as I said, it’s greyed out
