I used the format date and time function(format(date, yyyymmdd) to convert 20*personal details removed* to 20180101.
But what I get is 20180001. The month value is incorrect. I have tried various date values and I get same result.

Have you tried changing the style of the control instead? Select Styles for the control. Select Format , then select one from Date and Time or select Custom and specify the date format.
+9I had previously replied to this thread, not sure why it's missing... but I had suggested trying yyyyMMdd.
