Symptoms

SQL Master key Error and K2 service down

Diagnoses

Since the change of version of the base(basis) sql on 2012 in production, I have an error: The key 'SCSSOKey' is not open. The K2 service does not start any more.
This error is found in the log file:
"78537","2016-05-03 15:26:44","Error","System","2001","ServerStartError","SourceCode.Hosting.Server.Runtime.HostServerEngine.StartHostServer","2001 Error Starting Host Server: Please create a master key in the database or open the master key in the session before performing this operation.
The key 'SCSSOKey' is not open.

Resolution

Kindly log a support ticket to obtain a SQL script to fix the issue.

Please see the Restoring a Database article to obtain the SCSSO key script after restoring a database.

Please note that to obtain the master key password you would need to log a support ticket requesting the password referenced in this article.
