Stopping a Running Workflow

Badge +1

I have a workflow on a Sharepoint 2010 list that unfortunately seems to have created a continuous loop. I have gone to List Settings > Workflow Settings > Remove a workflow and chose the Remove option for that workflow. When it didn't cease sending me hundreds of email notifications, I deleted the workflow, and the notifications are still coming. How can I stop the workflow at this point?

Do you have access to the SharePoint server? On SharePoint 2016 I have the Nintex Workflow Start Service. I'm not sure if it is the same on SP2010 but you can try to stop the service and restart it. Of course this will stop all workflows from running too so it might be too big of a stick.

Thanks, this was helpful. We determined that the workflow had indeed ended. Perhaps the workflow had queued a huge number of notification emails before it was stopped, and Outlook could only receive a couple dozen emails at a time, making it seem like the workflow continued to send emails.

At either rate, the emails have thankfully stopped, so our issue is resolved.
